Hi everyone! I hope youâre having a great week so far. This week, Iâm hitting the ground running and aiming to continue uploading TikToks surrounding the personal finance topic.
Why not give me a follow on TikTok at my username @jordantrev?
One of the largest ways to change your finances for the better is to get a new job. If youâre like me, youâre prone to getting comfortable in one spot for too long without realizing the opportunities you may be missing. Career growth is a chance to grow your finances and as a person. Here are a few tips to snag your dream job:
Have a referral
Apply on the company website
Note all of your experience for interviews
Referrals
Thereâs an insane statistic that youâre 70% more likely to speak with a company recruiter if you were referred by an employee. Thatâs an amazing statistic to get your foot in the door!
When applying for jobs, donât only apply and pray. Have a strategy here!
Many people turn to LinkedIn and find employees at the company to speak to. Youâd be amazed at how many people Iâve met by seeking these âcoldâ referrals! Remember to be patient and kind with these strangers and to understand their busy work schedules donât revolve around you. If they truly refer you, itâs from the kindness of their heart.
Company Website Applications
Iâve fallen victim to LinkedIn. All the jobs are consolidated on the platform and itâs easy to apply all at once. Instead, try applying on the company website for the position after LinkedIn. This way youâll have double the applications which means more chances of your resume being viewed by a recruiter.
After that, be sure to check around on other websites too. Be sure to apply through different avenues to secure your future role!
Experience, Experience, Experience
Now itâs time to talk about the interview itself. The most successful interviews Iâve had were when I was able to recollect my experience throughout my career instead of my last role. Letâs take the interview question, âWhy are you qualified for this role?â
You may respond with the most recent experience from your current job like, âWell, I check data every day and manage individual teams while leading projects.â
OR
You can respond with all the experience youâve garnered throughout your career. Letâs take âIn the past, Iâve managed individual teams and led ongoing projects and I also have experience with client interaction, activating campaigns myself, and formulating advanced Excel formulas for data entry.â
What Iâm trying to say here is to share your entire career experience rather than what your current job is. Itâs all about how you spin it!
Once you grab the dream job, youâll have the finances to go with it! Remember, personal finance is all about what comes in and what goes out.
Have a great week,
Jordan
