A Long Break
Greetings! It’s been a minute! I hope you’re doing well. I know I am. My last post on Finessing Finance was written on January, 21st of this year. That’s 83 days since a published post. What’s been going on? Have you abandoned the blog? These are common questions I’ve been asked. But in short, a lot and no, I’m not.
Quitting My Job
Early this year, I made the decision with my wife to move from California to Texas. My wife and I had been impacted with the loss of loved ones, lack of opportunities, and overall diminishing quality of life. You can imagine how being nearly 1,500 miles from home for so long, you begin to realize what matters most. We had multiple conversations about where the future would take us and what our next steps from be. Ultimately, we netted out that it was time for a change.
Moving States
I resigned from my job near mid-February with intentions to move states before March 1st (rent factored into this decision). We had two weeks to move and we managed to make it happen. The entire experience was a complete whirlwind of tears, worn-down muscles from moving, and a bittersweet of leaving the place we made home for the past five years. We decided to make the move worthwhile by traveling to the Grand Canyon, Antelope Valley, Albuquerque, Amarillo, Dallas, and finally ending our adventure in Houston.
Returning Home
I’ve never been happier after making the move back home. I get to be with family and that matters most at this time. Luckily, I’ve followed the financial advice I’ve learned throughout the years (found here on this Substack) and I’m living in a comfortable spot, while I start my job search. I’ve been enjoying picking up new hobbies like pickleball and golf, and taking my health to the next level with a great workout routine.
As for Finessing Finance, be prepared for the continuation of weekly posts. We're needing to talk about our finances now more than ever in an environment of inflation, student loans, and you can now join me on my quest to start over. I plan to chronicle my journey step-by-step, writing the wins and losses of the week. I’m not out of the game, I’m just pivoting.
During this time, these was a lot of uncertainty and fear regarding my finances, but I remembered the advice from Sandy Sanchez last year. She made a similar move and it kept me level-headed throughout the process. Read about her experience here.
Do you have any questions for me? I’d love to hear from you.
